Direction of Drawn And Draft Angle

The draft and direction of drawn plays vital role in the mold. The draft  should be narrow in the direction of a drawn.

The direction in which the cavity plate is pulled, the direction of the cavity plate and the part is released is called a direction of drawn.

There are three types of draft. Positive draft, negative draft and neutral draft.

If there is a positive draft in the mold, the part is easily removed from the mold. Otherwise the part is trapped in the mold.

If the angle between perpendicular line of direction of drwan along side centre of part and direction of draft to the direction of drawn  is less than 90° than it is a possitive draft.

If the angle between perpendicular line of direction of drwan along side centre of part and direction of draft to the direction of drawn  is greater than 90° than it is a negative draft. And

If the direction of drawn and draft line is parallel than it is neutral draft. From the below fig you can understand easily.

Basic Mold

We have seen that many parameters have to be kept in mind to make a mold. So today we will learn about how to make a common mold.

If you talk about a simple mold, it has two types of plates, such as cavity plates and core plates.

When a part is fairly solid and it is in a already defined shape, its parting line from its center line or it is parting line from its edge. And if the edge is radius, then it is parted from where the radius ends. If the part is in round shape, its parting line is from the center of its circle. For example

Mold Design Procedure

Mold is used to be making a solid material by shaping fluid material. In other word mold is a mirror shape of the product. Mold design is prepared according to the shape of the item.

Basic Mold Procedure

Molds are also made from sand and also made from metal. Now it depends on what is to be made from molds. There are many varieties of molds considering the item being prepared from it, there are many varieties of molds.

There is no rigid rule for mold design. But when some problems arise, they are solved. So molds design process is necessary. I do not talk about anyone else but according to my experience, there is something like this.

1) Detailed Drawing

Before designing the mold we need a drawing of the product. Which we usually get from the customer. In this drawing, all the dimensions of the product are available.

2) Type of Mold

Considering the product, there are many types of molds such as injection molding, blow molding, investment casting mold, sand casting pattern, pressure casting mold, centrifugal casting mold, forging mold, etc.

3) Product Material

Shrinkage is also counted in the mold and naturally it depends on the material and its internal composition that is filled in the mold. Therefore, the materials of the product are also required.

4) Material of Mold

The mold's material is determined based on the type of mold and the life of the mold.

5) Types of Molding Machine

The raw material of the product is filled in the press machine and the mold is filled with it. This issue is not seen in sand casting patterns or centrifugal casting. The injection molding has vertical and horizontal press and there is a vertical press of wax of investment casting.

6) Define Draft and Parting Line

When a detailed drawing is fully studied, then it is defined as a draft angle. And depending on it the parting line of mold is determined. Which determines how much cavities in the mold and how to arrange it.

7) Make 3D Module

The design of a complete mold on the basis of a drawing, parting line and cavity is made in the software, which requires a mold cad designer, such as I.

8) Translator

Translator is used to be convert from the 3D die design to supported file extension of CAM software.

9) Manufacturing

To cut a raw material of mold by using CNC milling as per 3d design. Its simple part cut by conventional machine like Drilling and Lathe.

10) Fitting

Now the all part to be cut by the machine and time to assemble it. Some parts are fixed with mold and/or some parts slides as per product and mold geometry. Fix parts to be fixe with either weld joint or hex bolt.
